The gameplay is primarily action-oriented. Numerous enemies attack the player in waves, and progress to the next part of the stage often requires defeat of all enemies in the area. The main feature that lends originality to the game is the addition of the 'Chaos Legion', which are supernatural creatures that fight alongside the player.

Chaos Legion Gameplay Pc

Game Structure
Chaos Legion has a fairly straightforward structure. Like Devil May Cry, another Capcom game, CL consists of ridding a number of different arenas of monsters, and stats are kept on your killing abilities. Each Stage is split into several Scenes, and you are graded after each. Before the end of each stage, you will have to fight a boss creature. Once you do, it will yield a new Legion to add to your team. More on that below.

Gameplay Modes
There is really only one mode: Story Mode. However, there are several difficulty settings to choose from within it. You begin with either Easy or Normal. Beat the game once, and you will unlock the Hard difficulty.

The Map/Radar
You can take a quick gander at the map by pressing SELECT. This will show you the current area you're in. You can also follow the action on the smaller inset map that appears throughout the game. Use this to gauge where enemies are. Since you need to kill everything before progressing, you can use the map's radar to find the stragglers and slay them so that you can move on.

Legions
The Legions that come along for the ride throughout the game will give you a boost in combat--both on offense and defense. Read more abour Legions and what they do in the Legions section of this guide.

Leveling Up
Leveling Up is primarily for Legions. While your health and soul bars will increase as you collect Items, your character will not 'level up' per se. Therefore, leveling up will also be covered in the Legions section of the guide.

Items
There are tons of items you can collect in Chaos Legion. Some of them help replenish your health and powers, and others (like Crests) are necessary in order to move the story along.

Three Sacred Glyphs

Items can be used during a Scene or in between Stages. Certain Items (like Soul Max Up) will appear in your inventory, but will not be selectable, as its effects have already been felt.

Here's a quick rundown of common items:

  • Soul Recovery: This blue gem replenishes Soul.
  • Life Recovery: This green gem replenishes Life.
  • Crest: Collect these to gain the services of a new Legion. These are usually rewards for beating an end-level boss.
  • Thanatos Chip: A fragment of the Thantos Ultimate Legion. There are nine chips in the game.
  • EXP Gem: Increases Legion EXP when used at Intermissions. These come in S and M sizes.
  • Spiritual Gem: Grants your Legion a special ability (usually the ability to level up more).
  • Life Recovery: Replenishes life or increases Life Max.
  • Recovery Herb: Automatically replenishes some health.
  • Attack Up: Increases a player's attack power. These come in S and M sizes.
  • Defense Up: Increases a player's defense power. These come in S and M sizes.
  • Life Max Up: Increases the Life Max meter.
  • Soul Max Up: Increases the Soul Max meter.
Ono

Certain items, like the Recovery Herb and Attack Up will automatically be used by your character during the Scene in which they're collected. Others, like Life or Soul Recovery, can be used by pausing the game and accessing the Items screen. Still others, like the EXP Gem, can only be used during the Intermission.

Targets
Often, a Scene will have a Target creature. This Target is generally guarded by several other beings. Kill the Target, and you will kill the rest of the creatures. To get good rankings, you'll want to move through a level as quickly as possible, and that means killing Targets, rather than focusing on lesser beings. Be on the lookout--targets often drop useful items.
