Pros:
- is simple & fast
- has all the tools you need to mark up a screenshot if required (incl. redaction)
- provides the necessary (basic) options for sharing your snaps (Dropbox, email, Twitter, Facebook, and Message; I mostly save to Dropbox or share via Message and email)
- allows you to keep multiple screenshot windows open (love it)
- won't shrink quality/resolution of snaps on Retina systems (an option under Preferences)
- records time-limited GIF movies for quick demos
Cons
- won't grab the title of the window you snap (unlike Monosnap; when I have to take many shots in a row, I keep going back to Monosnap so files in my designated Screenshot folder are not just an endless list of files named by date and time, but categorized by window/app snapped)
- won't let you customize the file name (default is eye-mm-dd at hh.mm)
- won't let you specify a custom default Save folder under Preferences (but will remember your last Save location in the app)
- does not have a Timer feature (although the developer is working on it, I believe)
The developer is very responsive, if contacted, and open to suggestions. Their goal seems to be to keep things simple so as not to overwhelm 'nonpower' users — so if you want a ton of customization options, you are not the target audience. However, if you want a nice, quick, reliable screenshot and annotation app, check it out — at $1.99 it's a steal; but at this point, I would even pay $4.99 for it (having the option to keep multiple snaps open at a time alone is worth it for me).

Zappy the Snappy Screen Capture Tool
Zapier's screen dump tool, aptly named Zappy, was originally an internally-only tool built to improve the speed and efficiency of the company's remote team. This is not surprising, given that the company employs 300+ remote workers and is today one of the most successful only remote companies in the world. Zapier creates a screen dump tool that is not nonsense but it only makes sense.

Now that the vast majority of the world is suddenly working from home, Zapier has released Zappy to the public. It's only available for Mac, and you must have a Zapier account, but the program is completely free. Anyone with a Zapier paid plan can also take advantage of the company's web hosting, which allows you to get a screenshot to their destination a little faster.

0. On Windows, I've always used Screenpresso, which I absolutely love. On Mac, however, it was nothing comparable until Zappy. Although Zappy does not provide all the features that Screenpresso does, it is not really meant. It is designed to improve efficiency, so it does what needs to be done without being too complicated to use.

The Ins and Outs of Zappy
To get started with Zappy, you must first download it. On the landing page you just click on 'Download Zappy for free' and the download will start.
When the installation is complete, Zappy runs. A small icon appears in the upper taskbar; click it and then log in to your Zapier account to get started. Create an account if you don't already have one.
After logging in, click the Gear icon in the upper right. Select 'Settings' from the drop-down menu.
'Screen dump shortcut' is the only setting here. By default, it is set to 'Command + Shift + 1', but you can change it to whatever you want. To do so, click on the text box and then type the combination you want to use.

Use the shortcut selected, then click and drag the cursor to take a screenshot. The screenshot window appears. The size of the screenshot (in pixels) is displayed above the screenshot.
You can adjust the portion of the screen you want to capture. To do so, simply click and drag the corners of the screen overlay. This saves you from having to redo the process if you move and not drag the window over everything you want to capture.

To draw an arrow, click the arrow icon in the bottom left.
Zappy also has some other annotation options you can use; Click the down arrow next to the arrow icon to open the drop-down menu.
You can click 'Pen' to do a freestyle drawing or 'Text' to write a quick message. You can also choose from five different colors.
When you are ready to capture your screen, click the camera icon.
Alternatively, if you want to record a quick video, click the Camcorder icon.
Click the Gear icon to adjust the quality or format of an image or video.
As simple and fun as Zappy was to use, I encountered some big downsides. First, you can't tell Zappy where to store your photos and videos. By default, it is stored in Pictures> Zappy.
Also, there is no feature that allows you to add a frame around a screenshot. This is important if the background image is the same color as the background where you insert it. For example, if you take a screenshot with a white background and place it in a Word document, the image will bleed into the background.
Is Zappy for you?
Zappy is a great screen dump tool if you are using a Mac. It's free, easy to use and has most of the basic features you need in a screenshot tool. Although there are no important features missing, Zappy is still in early access, so I hope Zapier will add these later.
